Recently, Veterinary Institute Rijeka experienced a number of changes, culminating in the extensive construction activities, since early January 2011. Within the scope of the Project of legal and institutional harmonization in the field of agriculture with the EU acquis communautaire (CCACP), funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the extensive works have been funded on the adaptation and construction of annexes at the building of Veterinary Institute Rijeka. Upon completion of the construction works, the Institute will have 360 m2 of new premises and completely refurbished 260 m2 of laboratory premises as well as auxiliary administration premises.
A special feature of Veterinary Institute Rijeka is the activity it has been engaged in since June 2009 – testing of biotoxins in shellfish. In order to be able to provide that service, great efforts were made in terms of training and employment of staff for work on HPLC, furnishing of the area for mice breeding and procurement of equipment for breeding and keeping of laboratory mice.
Veterinary Institute Rijeka currently consists of four laboratories and General Unit.
